Welcome to the Defence Team!

As a new student to the Department of National Defence (DND), there is a lot to learn in your new role. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. We have plenty of great resources to help you navigate your new role at DND:

• Onboarding tools for new students: Check out the onboarding checklist and cheat sheet to help you grow, integrate, and become more familiar with the Defence Team.
• DND virtual orientation session for new students: You will receive an email invitation to attend and learn about the various DND and Canadian Armed Forces organizations, their roles, and information about your pay. If you haven’t received an email, please contact DND’s Onboarding team with a copy of your letter of offer.
• Self-declaration: If you choose to self-declare as being a member of an employment equity group in your Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) profile, it gives hiring managers more flexibility in student recruitment and focus on representation of employment equity groups.
• Second language evaluation: Having an updated language profile is important if you want to be hired into a bilingual public service position. DND offers all employees, including students, online second language evaluations (SLE) every quarter. To register for an evaluation in July, complete and submit the SLE Reading and Writing registration form by June 28, 2024.
