Recently, the Canadian Joint Warfare Centre (CJWC) welcomed Mr. Peter McDougall from Australia to discuss Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (JEMSO) experimentation as well as providing training on the Force Level Electronic Warfare Simulator (FLEWS).

The visit also provided a demonstration of the software’s capabilities to members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) JEMSO community.

As part of the overarching Agile Pan-domain Command and Control Experimentation endeavour (APCCXe) and in support of The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP) Technical Panel 3 (TP-3) Capability Project on JEMSO experimentation, Modelling and Simulation (M&S) for Pan-Domain Operations, the CJWC will conduct experimentation on JEMSO and the use of M&S tools.

The CJWC Experimentation and Interoperability Section supports Defence Research and Development Canada (who is the TP-3 National Lead) in this little-known sphere of activity.

The demonstration of the FLEWS software was well received by the CAF JEMSO community. CJWC Commanding Officer, Colonel Yannick Michaud, discussed the value of this program for DND/CAF and thanked the visiting scientist for the commitment of the support of the Australian Defence and Science Technology Group to CJWC in past efforts and welcomed their participation in future JEMSO experimentation.

The CJWC, located at the Shirley’s Bay Campus in Ottawa, Ontario, provides guided, integrated, and synchronized analysis of joint warfighting capabilities to produce data driven assessments and recommendations. The Centre assesses gaps and validates solutions in a controlled lab or virtual environment using leading-edge techniques in scientific experimentation, and simulation to provide decision-quality data and actionable solutions.

The APCCXe-JEMSO experimentation campaign conducted within the Joint Operations Fusion Laboratory of CJWC is expected to last until March 2027.
