The officer wears a ball cap with "MILITARY POLICE" and the Canadian flag. In the background, there’s a police vehicle marked with the Canadian Forces Military Police insignia, set outdoors with green trees.

On September 30, 2024, the Military Police (MP) ball cap was authorized for wear by credentialed MP/MP Officers during the conduct of police duties, functions, training, and operations. Throughout October and November, the MP ball cap will be distributed to military police detachments across Canada, and abroad.

The optional headdress, designed to be worn with MP duty gear, addresses the need for safety and comfort of military police in the unique environments that the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) operate in. Stemming from the feedback from personnel, the importance of this optional item was apparent. The decision to move forward with the project underscores the commitment to enhancing the operational effectiveness and comfort of MP/MPOs.

It is crucial to note that the MP ball cap is a controlled item, issued to each member based on insights from the Mass Casualty Commission. Members are accountable for this item, similar to other components of their uniform. MP/MPOs will still have their distinctive red berets available for wear with other orders of dress including the occupational patrol dress, keeping this important part of their heritage alive.

The design, with the 360-degree police markings and distinctive red trim on the brim, allow for military police to be recognizable from many angles to both the public and other law enforcement agencies.

The MP ball cap enhances the functionality of MP/MPOs to perform their duties at their best, while upholding the standards of the MP in service to their nation. This small change reflects a broader commitment to the continuous improvement of MP Operational Dress. Future updates, including a new design for a new MP operational headdress, are anticipated and will be announced in due course.
