The NATO C2 Centre of Excellence (C2 COE) Annual Command and Control (C2) Conference 2024, held in November, brought together representatives from over 20 nations to foster discussions on Multi-Domain Operations. Co-hosted by the Canadian Joint Warfare Centre (CJWC), this prestigious event offered a platform to reflect on orchestration, synchronization, and tailored strategies to address the challenges of modern operational environments.

The conference was a unique opportunity for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to showcase their expertise in Multi-Domain C2. Through presentations, panel discussions, and informal exchanges, participants explored strategies to harmonize activities across multiple dimensions. Synchronizing military operations with civil entities emerged as a central theme, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in generating converging effects that deter adversaries and maintain global stability.

Major-General Simon Bernard, Deputy Commander of Canadian Joint Operations Command, shared his thoughts on the conference:

“This year’s conference was a unique opportunity to pause and reflect on Multi-Domain C2 and to discuss orchestration and synchronization. The presentations, panel discussions, and networking with government, industry, and academia highlighted the importance of developing tailored strategies that yield desired outcomes across virtual, cognitive, and physical dimensions. Thank you, NATO C2 COE and the Canadian Joint Warfare Centre, for organizing such a high-quality event.”

CAF contributions underscored the role of innovation and collaboration in advancing multi-domain capabilities. By engaging with diverse stakeholders, the conference reinforced the need for clear strategies informed by international law, global trade dynamics, and social influence. This multi-faceted approach ensures effective C2 frameworks that enable swift adaptation to emerging challenges.

As co-hosts, CJWC's efforts demonstrated Canada’s commitment to NATO’s evolving strategic priorities. The event not only strengthened alliances but also positioned CAF at the forefront of discussions shaping the future of global defence.

The 2024 Annual C2 Conference underscores the importance of collaboration in shaping defence strategies. Its success serves as a foundation for advancing integrated C2 solutions across allied forces.
