The Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are committed to continual learning. Lessons Learned (LL) is a key part of this commitment. The Defence Lessons Learned System (DLLS) is the pan-DND/CAF Lessons Learned system of record.
Benefits of using DLLS:
- The system is a common repository for all DND/CAF Lessons Learned;
- Any Defence Wide Area Network (DWAN) or Consolidated Secret Network Infrastructure (CSNI) user can access the system;
- DLLS is actively developed by improving the toolset, adding functionality, and fixing bugs;
- DLLS is a user-friendly tool for all DND/CAF personnel to improve knowledge management and promote a learning culture;
- Consolidation of LL information in a common location that can be easily searched or referenced;
- Encourages the sharing of LL information across the institution, regardless of element or level, for both military and civilian personnel; and
- Automated workflows and notifications to speed up the processing of LL.
New Artificial Intelligence (AI) features
In Fall 2025, DLLS will introduce new AI features that users can look forward to. This includes:
- Proofreading inputs that will enhance the quality of the data;
- Transcribe-translate, which will immediately translate your work into either official language; and
- The ability to recommend items that are of similar nature based on user input.
The technical team has been working hard to incorporate this new functionality to the application.
Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) is the lead on all departmental LL initiatives, and will set up governance, policies, and implement the defence-wide LL program with DLLS as the LL repository. All L1 and environmental commands, including their subordinate groups, will be expected to use the system to capture their LL.
Accessing DLLS
Access to the application can be found via the DLLS links in the DND favourites. DLLS is intuitive and user friendly. More detailed instruction is freely available by contacting the DLLS team at +DLLS - SLRDAdmin@CJOC HQ@Ottawa-Hull.
