Each year, prior to the beginning of the Performance Appraisal Reports (PAR) production cycle, the Performance and Competency Evaluation (PaCE) system, process, and policy undergo improvements and updates. These updates are made based on the feedback received from users, such as members, supervisors, PaCE Managers, and lessons learned from the National Selection Boards (NSB).
Improvements coming to PACE
Members can reference the amended Canadian Armed Forces Military Personnel instruction 01/23 and CANFORGEN 041/25 for the full list of changes being implemented. Some of the changes are as follows:
- The minimum observation period for a Performance Appraisal Report (PAR) has increased to 120 calendar days from 60 working days. An increased observation period allows supervisors to accurately observe and appraise a member's performance and potential.
- PaCE Opt Out/In has been removed. A member can no longer Opt-Out of potential appraisal and all eligible PARs will be sent to Potential Evaluation Boards (PEB). All members previously opted-out will be automatically opted-in.
Upcoming deadlines and reminders
A reminder that:
- Members departing a unit on Advance Training Lists (ATLs) or release must have a PAR or PARX completed by the losing unit before departure.
- All feedback notes must be acknowledged and completed before the end of the reporting period, which ends on March 31.
- PAR writing commences on March 1.
- All PAR must be completed, debriefed, and signed before June 15.
The primary point of contact for PaCE-related questions is the unit PaCE manager or the L1 PaCE OPI. Requests for clarification and interpretation of Chief of Military Personnel policies can be sent to the Administrative Response Centre (ARC) ( CMPARC.CRACPM@forces.gc.ca).
