Did you know that through the Military Medical Training Plan (MMTP) and/ or the Military Physician Assistant Training Plan (MPATP), you could train to become a Physician Assistant (PA) or a CAF Medical Officer? A PA is a licensed medical professional who practices medicine in every specialty and setting, providing patient-centered care clinics and beyond. Working alongside physicians when needed, PAs are dedicated to expanding access to care and transforming health and wellness through compassionate, evidence-based practices.

The MMTP for Medical Officers is only available to currently serving Regular Force members who have worked for one year after reaching their Occupational Function Point (OFP) and wish to pursue a medical degree.  This program is not available to civilians or members of the Primary Reserve.

Why Choose This Path?

Exploring new opportunities: Have you been contemplating a different career in the CAF? The MMTP and MPATP programs could be the solution to begin a rewarding career in healthcare!

Provide front-line health care: From deployments to clinics, solve complex medical challenges where it matters most.

Expand Your Horizons: Apply your discipline, resilience, and collaborative skills as part of a fulfilling and dynamic career.

Act now: There has never been a better time to apply to the MMTP and the MPATP programs.  For those without a full degree who have at least two years of undergraduate studies, this is an ideal time to apply to the MPATP, as the two baccalaureate PA programs may be transitioning to Masters programs as early as Sep 2027.
