Complete your mid-year performance assessment

Mid-year is a time when managers must document each employee’s mid-year performance in the Public Service Performance Management application (PSPM App) by October 31, 2025.

Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) personnel and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) internal service employees who have transferred to DND:

Your mid-year performance agreement must be completed with your DFO manager. Following the completion of your mid-year review, your DFO manager will need to release you in the myEmployees application by October 31, 2025. Once released and your profile in TAP has been updated to reflect your status as a DND employee, your DND manager will be able to select you in the portal and complete all future reviews.

The Directive on Performance Management requires managers to check in with their employee and conduct a formal assessment of the employee’s performance. The mid-year review is an opportunity for a productive two-way conversation, where managers can discuss the employee’s progress, provide productive feedback on their performance, review work objectives and Learning and Development Plans.

Conversations on expected progress at mid-year can help employees stay on track and maximize or improve performance. Managers should schedule these meetings far in advance to prepare the conversation. Employees too can benefit by preparing themselves with a self-examination on progress.

Mid-year reviews

When conducting mid-year reviews, managers should adjust work objectives and/or performance indicators, if necessary, documenting comments on performance, and indicate that the employee’s performance is either:

Military managers of public service employees must have the manager’s self-service role in Human Resources Management System (HRMS)/PeopleSoft to access Public Service Performance Management application (PSPM App).

Mid-year review is also an opportunity to ensure your employees have an up-to-date and accurate work agreement in the myWorkArrangement (mWA) application. As a reminder, following the updated Direction on prescribed presence in the workplace, it is highly recommended to include a work objective about hybrid compliance.
