Effective September 1, 2025, changes were made to the Directive on Unions Dues. These changes are intended to help streamline pay processes, fix operational challenges, and ensure consistency with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) policies.
Highlights of the changes
- Union dues are not deducted from overtime or bonuses (clarification)
- Union dues for reclassifications or conversions are adjusted on a go-forward basis only (clarification)
- Clarified provisions for the collection of union dues during periods of leave without pay and return from leave (clarification)
- New provisions for termination of employment or death outlining the circumstances when union dues must be collected (new)
- Clarified provisions for the collection of union dues in situations creating arrears and refunds (clarification)
