“I congratulate both military and civilian members of 437 Squadron for their professionalism and dedication,” said Royal Canadian Air Force commander, Lieutenant-General André Deschamps, as he conferred the Canadian Forces Unit Commendation on the men and women of 437 Transport Squadron, 8 Wing Trenton, Ont., on September 13 under sunny blue skies.

“It’s a great day to be in the RCAF.”

The squadron, also known as the Huskies, fly the CC 150 Polaris (Airbus). The squadron has maintained an unprecedented operational tempo—providing safe and effective air mobility and air-to-air refuelling support, under challenging operational conditions—since 2001.

Created in 1980, the Canadian Forces (CF) Unit Commendation is a group award to recognize distinguished service by “any formation, unit or sub-unit of the CF … that has performed a deed or activity considered beyond the demand of normal duty.”

Sustained dedication, professionalism

“It is truly an honour to be a part of 437 Squadron as we receive this commendation for the many years of hard work and dedication, aiding in the RCAF’s operational achievements,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Ryan Eyre, commanding officer of 437 Squadron. “This commendation is not only a testament to the professional competence of our Husky squadron members, but to the outstanding support of the entire 8 Wing team.”

The Huskies have contributed to the success of several high-profile missions, including Operation Athena in Afghanistan, Operation Mobile in Libya and the 2011 Royal Tour, distinguishing themselves with their flexibility, innovation and sustained commitment to duty.

LCol Eyre emphasized that the squadron’s success is a result of the strong team spirit between military and civilian personnel.

“This includes a significant number of people, from our contracted maintainers who work tirelessly to ensure serviceable aircraft, to the 8 Wing mission support personnel who provide essential services that lead to mission success,” he said.

437 Squadron is proud of its operational achievements of the past decade, and continues to work as part of the greater 8 Wing team to meet the airlift and air-to-air refuelling needs of the CF.

“Living up to our motto, Omnia Passim – Anything, anywhere, 437 Squadron is prepared to face the challenges of the years to come,” said LCol Eyre.
