Canadian Army hosts Brazilian Army Commander

June 1, 2016 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces
Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army, hosted his counterpart, General Eduardo Villas Bôas of the Brazilian Army, in Kingston, Ottawa, and Québec City from May 29 to June 1, 2016. The visit offered an opportunity for the commanders to conduct Army-to-Army discussions on bilateral cooperation and mutual exercise and training opportunities. Such meetings underscore Canada’s commitment to nurture key partnerships in the Americas.
Part of General Villas Bôas’ itinerary included a visit to 2nd Canadian Division Support Base Valcartier, Quebec. While on location, he surveyed the training areas and viewed demonstrations conducted by soldiers from 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group. He also visited the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Center, and the Canadian Army Command and Staff College in Kingston, Ontario.

- Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse travelled to Brazil in March of 2015, where he visited General Villas Bôas at his Headquarters in Brasilia. He also took the opportunity to tour the Vila Militar in Rio de Janeiro, where the 1st Division Brazilian Army will operate the Command Centre for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games.
- A Canadian Army Officer with 2010 Vancouver Olympics experience has recently visited the final validation exercise in Brazil in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games.
