Statement

June 1, 2016 – Colorado Springs, Colo – North American Aerospace Defense Command / Canadian NORAD Region

Lieutenant-General Pierre St-Amand, Deputy Commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command issued the following statement:

"It is with a heavy heart to announce that one of our Canadian leaders at NORAD has passed away after a brief illness on 30 May 2016.

“Colonel Brian Derry was the Deputy Command Centre Director at NORAD and U.S. Northern Command and has been instrumental in leading decisions and actions to homeland defence missions for both Canada and the United States. As a result of his exemplary service to the Canadian Armed Forces, he was recently selected to assume the duties as Commander of 1 Wing in Kingston, Ont. this summer.

“Brian served Canada well - he was a true officer, and gentleman. He was a caring and loving father and husband, always putting his family first. He was liked and respected by everyone he met. His passing has already been felt across the command and the Canadian Armed Forces.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Brian's family during this difficult time.‎ He will be forever missed by all who knew him."
