Commander Canadian Army Change of Command Ceremony

July 11, 2016 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

On July 14, there will be a change of command ceremony for the Canadian Army on Parliament Hill from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lieutenant-General Paul Wynnyk will assume command of the Canadian Army from Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse. The ceremony will be presided over by the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Jonathan Vance.

There will be no expected impact to the public, with no road closures and no detours. Soldiers will be issued service rifles as part of the ceremony; however, no ammunition will be allotted.

There will also be a 17 Gun salute at approximately 10:15 a.m. Blank rounds will be fired for approximately 2 minutes and 40 seconds at 10-second intervals. A M777 155 mm Towed Howitzer, a Light Armoured Vehicle 6.0 Armoured Personnel Carrier and a Buffalo Counter Improvised Explosive Device vehicle will also be on display during the parade on Parliament Hill.

This ceremony is open to the public and those wishing to attend are invited to spectate from the designated public viewing area along Wellington Street.
