New Integrated Personnel Support Centre in Trenton officially opens
News Release
August 29, 2016 – Trenton, Ontario – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting the mental and physical health and wellbeing of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel. Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, accompanied by Neil Ellis, Member of Parliament for Bay of Quinte, today presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the new Integrated Personnel Support Centre (IPSC) at 8 Wing Trenton.
The IPSC is a local area support unit, and part of a Canada-wide system of support to ill and injured CAF members. Important resources such as return to duty coordination, outreach and advocacy services are available at these centres.
Until today, the Trenton IPSC was housed in a temporary facility and in a separate location from its service partners. This new, permanent facility in Trenton is now a one-stop-shop to better provide services and meet the needs of ill and injured personnel. Most of its service partners, such as Veterans Affairs Canada, CAF Nurse Case Managers, Family Liaison Officers, are now under the same roof, facilitating interactions with CAF personnel, veterans, and their families.
Construction started in April 2015 and took approximately one year to complete. The overall project cost $2.4 million, which includes planning and design work, construction, project management, and taxes.
The care and support of ill and injured CAF members, their families, and the families of fallen members is a priority for the CAF, the Department of National Defence (DND), and the Government of Canada. The Government of Canada is also committed to improving the facilities where CAF members and their families live, work, and train.
