Able Seaman Nicholas De Nobile Found Guilty Following Court Martial

On July 19, 2017, Able Seaman Nicholas De Nobile was found guilty at a standing court martial in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Chief Military Judge Colonel Mario Dutil found Able Seaman De Nobile guilty on one charge of stealing related to offences that took place between December 2014 and February 2015 at Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Radisson in Trois-Rivières.

Of the two charges preferred by the Director of Military Prosecutions on November 18, 2016, Able Seaman De Nobile pleaded guilty to one charge of stealing under Article 114 of the National Defence Act (NDA).

A second charge of theft under $5000 – Article 334 of the Criminal Code of Canada (Section 130 of the NDA) – was stayed due to Able Seaman De Nobile’s guilty plea on the alternative charge and that he had reimbursed the money prior to the start of the court martial proceedings.

Able Seaman De Nobile was sentenced to a reduction in rank from Master Seaman to Able Seaman.
