Media opportunities for Operation NANOOK 2017

Media are invited to participate in several media opportunities during Operation NANOOK 2017, which is taking place in Rankin Inlet, NU; and northern Labrador from 12 to 27 August 2017.
Elements of the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force, and Canadian Rangers will be operating together with other government departments and agencies in safety and security scenarios.
Opportunity 1: Media Visit – Rankin Inlet
What: The safety line of operation involves approximately 290 Canadian Armed Forces members, mainly from 38 Canadian Brigade Group based in Winnipeg as part of the Arctic Response Company Group, and 35 members from other government departments and agencies, including Defence Research and Development Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Visiting media will have an opportunity to interview participating CAF members.
When and Where:
Option 1: Departure from Winnipeg, Manitoba, 17 August, return 19 August
Option 2: Departure from Ottawa, Ontario, 23 August, return 24 August
Opportunity 2: Media Embed – Rankin Inlet
What: Media will have a unique opportunity to be fully embedded with CAF troops: to deploy with them, live with them, interview soldiers, and see how the Canadian Armed Forces cooperates with other government departments and agencies during a crisis situation in the Canadian North.
When: 14-25 August
Where: Rankin Inlet, NU
Opportunity 3: Media Program – Northern Labrador
What: Elements of the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force, and Canadian Rangers will be operating together within a defence and security scenario. Northern partners from the Innu Nation, Nunatsiavut Government, and RCMP are also expected to participate in the scenario. Media will have the opportunity to either be fully embedded with CAF elements or to participate in a scheduled media visit, depending on their availability.

Where: Goose Bay and northern coastal communities, Newfoundland and Labrador
