Long-term support services for the Royal Canadian Navy

News release

July 25, 2019 – Ottawa (Ontario) – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

As stated in Canada’s defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the Government is making new investments to ensure Canada’s Navy is capable of meeting the anticipated defence and security challenges of the coming decades.

On behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, Karen McCrimmon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, announced the award of a service contract to BMT Canada Ltd. as part of this commitment. Under this contract, BMT Canada Ltd. will provide engineering, logistics, management, and support services to the Royal Canadian Navy’s fleet for an initial value of $77.8 million for five years. It will support up to 263 jobs for its duration.

The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) must continually adapt to emerging threats in order to accomplish its missions. This service contract will assist the RCN in meeting this mandate. BMT Canada Ltd. is contracted to provide a wide variety of work such as standards development and logistics services for equipment sustainment.

This contract is one of the first to have been awarded through an improved contract approval process, resulting in accelerated implementation. It will pave the way for other contracts to go through this new streamlined process and, as a result, improve how we acquire services for the Canadian Armed Forces.
