Statement from the Office of the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal

June 15, 2022 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

On June 15, 2022, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) laid the following charges against Lieutenant-General (Retired) Trevor Cadieu:

•   2 x counts of Sexual Assault contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The matter relates to incidents alleged to have occurred at RMC Kingston in 1994.

The decision by the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal (CFPM) to retain this investigation was taken in due regard to the parameters outlined by Madame Arbour. As this investigation was near completion, the civilian police agency of concurrent jurisdiction opted not to accept it.

This matter will now proceed through the civilian justice system and no further information can be released at this time.
