Bringing new solutions to light
Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) Marketplace is the program's premier, by invitation only, off-ramping event. Marketplace gives innovators the ability to showcase their technology to the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and directly interact with stakeholders to find meaningful connections across government and private industry after their IDEaS funding is complete.
IDEaS Marketplace 2024
IDEaS Marketplace 2024 is looking forward to showcasing funded innovators solicited through:
- Competitive Projects’ CFP4;
- Pop up city and Robot Round-up Contests;
- Innovation Networks’ CFPMN3 Advancing 5G capabilities; and,
- Counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems (CUAS) 2019 and 2022, and Corrosion Detection in Ships (CDIS) Sandboxes.
Marketplace 2024 will also showcase select Canadian innovators participating in NATO’s Defence Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) pilot challenges launched in 2023.
Event details:
This event will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario from 9:00 to 16:00.
Invited guests include:
- Existing IDEaS stakeholders within the DND/CAF;
- Representatives of large defence, security, and innovations firms; and,
- Federal and provincial government partners.
This event:
- Will raise awareness of the innovations created by successful participants of the IDEaS program;
- Provide DND/CAF stakeholders with an opportunity to learn about newly developed technologies;
- Promote interactions between IDEaS innovators and potential end-users from across public and private sectors;
- Offer an opportunity for research networks studying advanced materials and autonomous systems to present their leading-edge research and development; and
- Set the stage for additional networking opportunities within the IDEaS alumni community.

IDEaS Marketplace 2023
At IDEaS Marketplace 2023, innovators funded through the program’s second and third call for proposals (CFP)(launched in 2019 and 2020, respectively), showcased solutions to representatives from the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), external government partners, and industry.
Academia-led research clusters who received funding through Innovation Networks shared the results of three-year research projects that focused on autonomous systems and advanced materials.
Finally, the COVID-19 CFP highlighted advances meant to aid in future pan-government pandemic response.
This event:
- Raised awareness of the innovations created by successful participants of the IDEaS program;
- Provided DND/CAF stakeholders with an opportunity to learn about newly developed technologies;
- Promoted interactions between IDEaS innovators and potential end-users from across public and private sectors;
- Offered an opportunity for research networks studying advanced materials and autonomous systems to present their leading-edge research and development;
- Showcased technologies created as part of the broader Government of Canada COVID-19 pandemic response; and
- Set the stage for additional networking opportunities within the IDEaS alumni community.

Keynote and speakers
Our keynote address by Rear Admiral J.B. Zwick, Chief of Combat Systems Integration, Vice Chief of Defence Staff, DND/CAF, spoke to the three key areas where innovation can play a key role in helping achieve their objectives.
Dr. Jaspinder Komal, Assistant Deputy Minister, Defence Research and Development Canada, also spoke on the achievements of the program as it started its fifth year.

About IDEaS Marketplace
IDEaS Marketplace creates an opportunity for innovators funded through selected IDEaS calls for proposals to present their solutions to the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) at an invitation only event. Innovators deliver dynamic presentations on their solutions, as well as being provided booth space for networking opportunities with military personnel and other potential end-users in the federal government and defence industry.
