Annex E - Laboratory and Radiological Tests After a Heat Stroke
This list is only meant as a guideline. Clinical judgment must be used in this followup. Tests may be skipped and others added depending on the clinical situation.
Laboratory testing:
- Arterial blood gases
- Lactic acid
- Glucose
- Electrolytes
- Phosphate
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Hepatic function tests
- Muscle function tests (CK, aldolase, myoglobin)
- CBC
- Kidney function tests (creatinine and BUN)
- Urinalysis
- In some cases, a CSF cell count may be indicated
Radiological testing:
- Head CT if there was an altered mental status)
- Chest X ray (as a follow-up if there was atelectasis, pneumonia, pulmonary infarction, or pulmonary edema.)
