Cancer Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of cancer can vary depending on the person, type of cancer and its location in the body. In some cases, there will be no signs or symptoms.
The information below provides the most common signs and symptoms for a specific cancer. It is important to note that other conditions may cause some of these symptoms as well. If you are at all concerned about your health or are experiencing symptoms, seek care right away.
Breast Cancer

Signs and symptoms may include:
- Pain in the breast or nipple
- Lump in the breast or armpit
- Change in breast size, shape or swelling of the breast
- Change in breast skin, such as dimpling or thickening
- Nipple discharge, other than milk
- Nipple pitting or changes, including inversion
- Change in breast color
- Redness, rash or flaky skin around the nipple
- Unusual weight loss, loss of appetite, or fatigue
Cervical Cancer

Signs and symptoms may include:
- Spotting or bleeding between periods
- Spotting or bleeding after vaginal intercourse
- Spotting or bleeding after menopause
- Menstrual bleeding that becomes unusually long or heavy
- Pain during vaginal intercourse
- A change in vaginal discharge or odour
- Pelvic pain that may travel to the back or down the legs
- Swelling in one or both legs
- Difficulty urinating or having a bowel movement
- Leaking urine or feces from the vagina
- Unusual weight loss, loss of appetite, or fatigue
Colorectal Cancer

Signs and symptoms may include:
- Rectal bleeding (can be bright red or dark red)
- Abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating or cramps that won’t go away
- Pain or discomfort in the rectum
- Dark or black stools
- Changes in your stool pattern (such as constipation or diarrhea that persist)
- Feeling like your bowels aren’t empty after a bowel movement
- Changes in your stool appearance (looks narrower)
- Lump in your abdomen or rectum
- Nausea or vomiting
- Unusual weight loss, loss of appetite, or fatigue
Lung Cancer

Signs and symptoms may include:
- A cough that persists or gets worse overtime
- Chest pain, that gets worse when you cough or deep breathe
- Coughing up blood or rust-colored spit
- Hoarseness (voice sounding scratchy for no reason)
- Voice changes
- Shortness of breath
- Wheezing
- Difficulty swallowing
- Swollen lymph nodes around the neck or collar bone
- Unusual weight loss, loss of appetite, or fatigue
