Cadet Entrance, Exit and Self-Identification Surveys

  1. In the coming weeks, CJCR will send a self-identification survey to all registered cadets to allow them to voluntarily answer questions related to important dimensions of their identity. Having a better understanding of its diversity will allow CJCR to tailor direction, guidance and strategy to its current and future demographics.
  2. Also, as of the fall of 2022, CJCR will be launching an entrance and an exit survey to support the Cadet Program’s continuous improvement and allow stakeholders to better understand what motivates young Canadians to join the Program, as well as what pushes cadets to leave the Program prior to reaching their 19th birthday. Entrance and exit surveys will also allow cadets to voluntarily answer questions related to their identity in order to monitor the evolution of the Program’s diversity.
  3. While the surveys will not include every important diversity dimension, it will cover gender identity, indigenous identity, visible minority identity and disability. These dimensions cover aspects of identity that are generally recognized as being significantly impacted by bias and discrimination in Canada.
  4. All surveys are short and are meant to be completed in a few minutes. Participation in the survey will be completely voluntary and anonymous, and participants will have the option to opt out of any questions they do not feel comfortable answering.
  5. Surveys will be sent directly to the cadet’s and the parents/guardian’s email, entered in Fortress. The entrance survey will be sent 90 days after a new cadet is taken on strength, and the exit survey will be sent in the days after a cadet has been stricken off strength.
  6. Quantitative results of the surveys will be aggregated by, Zone, Area, RCSU and Formation and the results will be made available to stakeholders at all levels of the organization to allow them to make evidence-based decisions in regards to the delivery of the Program within their area of responsibility.
  7. Corps/Squadron COs are encouraged to continue to conduct entrance and exit interviews with their cadets, as this may help them better contextualize the result of the surveys.
  8. In order to ensure maximum participation and avoid the automated emails being treated as undesirable mail (Spam), corps/squadron COs are expected to inform cadets and parents/guardians of these three initiatives.
