Cadet Administrative and Training Orders (CATOs)


Requirements and Limitations

1. In organizing this event, the Steering Committee shall include or factor in the following requirements or limitations:

  1. set-up period, determined annually and separately from the event’s schedule;
  2. maximum 7 days for team members, coaches and staff cadets, not including travel days;
  3. maximum 6 days for most of the officer staff, not including travel days;
  4. preferred 2 team practice days, minimum 1 day;
  5. preferred 2 staff work-up days, minimum 1 day;
  6. preferred 4 race days, minimum 3 days; and
  7. tear down period, determined annually and separately from the event’s schedule.

Activities

2. As much as possible, the Steering Committee shall schedule the following activities:

  1. opening ceremony;
  2. evening optional activities;
  3. event-related guest speaker presentation;
  4. awards ceremony; and
  5. team citizenship visit (minimum 1 day and 1 night).

Schedule

3. Normally, the Regatta will run from Saturday of one weekend to Sunday of the following weekend. The distance between sleeping quarters, messing facilities, the waterfront and the racing area will affect the daily schedule. A suggested general schedule follows:

  1. Day 1 – Staff and team arrival;
  2. Day 2 – Training:
    (1) Site familiarization,
    (2) Racing and protest instructions,
    (3) Staff Work-Ups,
    (4) Team Practice, and
    (5) Evening – Optional activities;
  3. Day 3 – Training and Opening Ceremony:
    (1) Staff Work-Ups,
    (2) Team Practice, and
    (3) Evening – Opening ceremony and meet and greet;
  4. Day 4 – Racing:
    (1) Morning – Races 1 and 2,
    (2) Afternoon – Races 3 and 4, and
    (3) Evening – Guest speaker presentation or optional activities;
  5. Day 5 – Racing:
    (1) Morning – Races 5 and 6,
    (2) Afternoon – Races 7 and 8, and
    (3) Evening – Optional activities;
  6. Day 6 – Racing and Family Day:
    (1) Morning – Races 9 and 10,
    (2) Family Day activities,
    (3) Afternoon – Race 11, and
    (4) Evening – Optional activities;
  7. Day 7 – Racing and Awards Ceremony:
    (1) Morning – Race 12,
    (2) Afternoon – Race 13 (if required), and
    (3) Evening – Awards Ceremony;
  8. Day 8 – Citizenship Visit:
    (1) team members, coaches and staff cadet citizenship visit, and
    (2) officer staff departure; and
  9. Day 9 – Team members and staff cadets’ departure.

4. The above schedule does not show set-up or tear down periods. Depending on the site, requirements and available staff, duration for these may vary. Neither period should exceed 4 days.
