Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)

The Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers (CJCR) Group transitioned from Remote Desktop Services (RDS) to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), powered by Virtual Machines (VM). A VM is your virtual workspace, and it is just like logging into a separate computer but in the Cloud. RDS is no longer available, all RDS links were rerouted to AVD.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. How does AVD work?

Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) functions as a secure workspace managing multiple virtual machines (VMs).

AVD provides the environment – It hosts, manages, and provides access to virtual machines.

VMs serve as workspaces – Each user logs into one of the virtual machines within AVD just like logging into a personal or shared computer.

Q2. Can I use any device to access AVD?

Yes, AVD can be accessed on any device!

Q3. What happens if I cannot access AVD through the Windows App?

If you encounter issues accessing AVD via the App, ensure your device is connected to the Internet and meets the minimum system requirements. If problems persist, try accessing AVD through the webpage.

Q4. Can I access AVD through my mobile device?

Yes, AVD can be accessed with any type of device, which is one of its best features. However, for the best experience we recommend using the App from a Computer as the desktop experience is much better.

Q5. What if I experience connectivity issues?

Ensure your device has a stable internet connection. If you're using the Windows app, try closing and reopening the app. If the problem persists, try accessing AVD via the webpage.

Q6. Where do I save things on AVD?

You are unable to save files directly to the AVD desktop; however, it will save to your OneDrive which is connected directly on the desktop.
