Operation AMARNA
From: National Defence
Operation (Op) AMARNA replaces Ops ARTEMIS and IMPACT as part of Canada’s contribution to strengthening peace and security in the Middle East.
Op AMARNA marks a deliberate shift in Canada’s military engagement in the Middle East, allowing the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to adapt to changing geopolitical dynamics while maintaining its ability to respond effectively to emerging security challenges. This strategic transition underscores Canada’s enduring commitment to global security while ensuring that the CAF remains aligned with evolving Government of Canada priorities. By redistributing its resources and efforts, the CAF will continue to deliver on its commitment to Canadians and international partners.
Other CAF operations in the Middle East will continue to execute their operational mandates.
What are Canadian Armed Forces members doing?
Through Op AMARNA, the Canadian Armed Forces will conduct activities such as: exercises and defence diplomacy with regional partners, continued support to NATO Mission Iraq, continued capacity building in Jordan and Lebanon, and contributions to the Combined Maritime Force. This refocussing of military resources will allow the CAF to be well-postured for crisis response in the Middle East, while remaining committed to supporting regional peace and security.
