Operation CADENCE

Operation CADENCE was the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) support to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) security effort for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit, held in the Kananaskis region from June 15 to 17, 2025.

The CAF has unique capabilities, so it often supports other government departments in Canada. For instance, the CAF helps respond to natural disasters and conducts Search and Rescue. Contributing to the safety and security of the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit was one of the ways that the CAF is strong at home.

The CAF supported the RCMP in the following ways:

The CAF’s presence during Operation CADENCE was based on the needs identified by the RCMP.

The Task Force

Land Task Force

The Canadian Armed Forces deployed a Land Task Force to provide surveillance and security presence in and around the Controlled Access Zone in support to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police-led Integrated Safety and Security Group operations.

Air Task Force

The Canadian Armed Forces deployed an Air Task Force to provide air mobility, which involved the transport and movement of material, equipment, and personnel in support to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police-led Integrated Safety and Security Group operations.

The supporting Commands

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)

NORAD was one of the partners that supported the Royal Canadian Mounted Police-led Integrated Safety and Security Group during the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit by providing aerospace warning and control. NORAD worked in close coordination with both the Integrated Safety and Security Group and the Canadian Joint Operations Command, leveraging its ongoing mission of aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning for North America—operating 24/7, 365 days a year. As part of these efforts, the Canadian NORAD Region (CANR) secured the Summit’s restricted airspace, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the event.

Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM)

CANSOFCOM was part of the Canadian Armed Forces support to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Integrated Safety and Security Group as part of Canada’s security posture for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit.
