Aliksir opens an essential oil distillery in Saint-Tite and continues to expand

Mauricie investment project valued at more than $2 million

Saint-Tite, Quebec, May 18, 2018

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec have awarded a total of $1,105,000 in financial assistance to Aliksir to support its expansion as well as the establishment of a distillery in Saint-Tite, in Mauricie, for the production of essential oils and hydrolats using forest products and residual biomass. The investment project is valued at more than $2 million and will create six jobs.

Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) has granted a repayable contribution of $230,000 to the company. The funding will go toward the purchase of equipment for the business’s Saint-Tite and Deschambault-Grondines distilleries and support its products’ commercialization activities in international markets.

For its part, the Government of Quebec has awarded $575,000 in financial assistance from the Fonds de diversification économique du Centre‑du‑Québec et de la Mauricie [Centre-du-Québec and Mauricie region economic diversification fund] and $300,000 from the Fonds d’appui au rayonnement des régions [regional outreach support fund].

  • Founded in 1988, Aliksir specializes in the production of “organic” certified essential oils and hydrolats made primarily from Quebec forest products.

  • The Fonds de diversification économique du Centre-du-Québec et de la Mauricie supports the creation, start-up and growth of high-performance, innovative enterprises and the development of new products and processes.

  • The Fonds d’appui au rayonnement des régions (FARR) was designed to complement the Fonds de développement des territoires [regional development fund] so as to allow municipal and regional elected officials to develop and support growth-generating projects that will help maximize community development, with a view to supporting the government’s 2018–2022 strategy to ensure territorial occupancy and vitality.

  • A total of $310 million over five years will be invested in regional development through the FARR. The program’s budget is broken down as follows: $30 million in 2017–2018, $45 million in 2018–2019, $60 million in 2019–2020, $75 million in 2020–2021, and $100 million annually as of 2021–2022.

  • CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
