Backgrounder: details of contributions awarded to three Laval companies

Backgrounder

April 17, 2019 – LAVAL, QUEBECCanada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The companies NMX Research and Solutions Inc., Plastitel Products Inc. and IniXium Inc. will be able to continue their operations more effectively by receiving repayable contributions totalling $563,000 from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

Eva Nassif, Member of Parliament for Vimy, announced that funding today. The funding awarded by the Government of Canada will enable the recipient companies to achieve the objectives that they have set for themselves. Carrying out their respective projects will generate total investments of nearly $1.9M and create 18 jobs in Laval.

The funding was awarded under CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program.

NMX Research and Solutions Inc.

Repayable contribution of $350,000 out of a total investment of $1,108,474

NMX Research and Solutions, a start-up company in Laval, specializes in basic research in medicinal chemistry and is being incubated at the Centre québécois d'innovation en biotechnologie. It carries out and supports drug development programs, thereby helping to speed up the discovery of molecules with high therapeutic potential and the starting of clinical trials.

The project aims to increase NMX’s production capacity and competitiveness through the purchase of research equipment that should lead to the discovery of new medicines.

CED’s contribution will enable the SME to purchase and install scientific instruments including a liquid-handling system, a protein purification system, and two instruments for protein characterization.

Through this project, NMX will more than double its staff from 9 to 19 employees.

Plastitel Products Inc.

Repayable contribution of $163,000 out of a total investment of $666,000

Founded in 1987, the company specializes in the design and manufacture of plastic parts for thermoforming. Plastitel is integrated into large value chains, and its main clients are manufacturers in the medical and transportation industries.

The project aims to improve the company’s competitiveness and help it expand. To carry out the project, Plastitel has purchased digital production equipment for manufacturing thermoformed plastic parts.  

CED’s contribution enabled the company to purchase and install the digitally controlled machining centre.

The project resulted in four jobs being created.

IniXium Inc.

Repayable contribution of $50,000 out of a total investment of $100,000

IniXium is a fast-growing innovative start-up company that has managed to quickly position itself in the life sciences value chain. Being on the cutting edge, it specializes in the research and discovery of medicines and protein chemistry. Through its expertise, the Laval SME is helping to speed up the discovery of molecules with high therapeutic potential.

The project aims to implement an initial strategy for marketing IniXium’s research and analysis services in medicine discovery in the United States. It also aims to increase the company’s competitiveness and growth through the purchase of new laboratory equipment for precision analysis of molecular interactions and proteins.

The assistance from CED will be used for such things as prospecting activities in the target markets, attending trade shows, developing promotional and advertising tools, updating IniXium’s website and its applications for marketing purposes. The contribution will also enable the purchase and installation of new research and analysis equipment.

The project will create four jobs.
