Backgrounder: details of contributions awarded to two businesses and one organization in La Tuque
Backgrounder
June 7, 2019 – LA TUQUE, QUEBEC – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Pro-Mec Elite, Microbrasserie La Pécheresse and Club Moto-Neige La Tuque will be able to complete their projects with the help of a total of $812,888 in repayable and non-repayable contributions from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.
The funding was announced today by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Member of Parliament for Saint-Maurice–Champlain and Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. The Government of Canada’s assistance will help the recipient businesses and organization achieve their set objectives. Their respective projects will generate total investments of nearly $2.5M and create ten jobs, in addition to diversifying economic activity in La Tuque.
The funding was awarded under CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program and Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program.
Pro-Mec Elite Inc.
Repayable contribution of $600,000 out of a total investment of $1.94M
Founded in 1993, Pro-Mec Elite Inc. (PM) specializes in the design and manufacture of steel and metalwork structures in the industrial and infrastructure sectors (bridges, dams and buildings). PM manufactures safety barriers, ladders, stairs, elevator shafts, formwork, walkways, lifting devices, steel supports, etc. Although most of its products are made of steel, the company also works with materials such as aluminum and stainless steel. PM uses state-of-the-art drawing software (Advance Steel) and an ERP system (Advance Workshop) that allows for parts traceability.
The project is intended to support the company’s growth through the acquisition of state‑of-the-art equipment.
CED’s contribution will go toward the purchase of equipment, including a cutting table, robotic plasma profile cutting equipment and a ten-axis digital bending press.
The project is expected to create eight jobs.
Club Moto-Neige La Tuque Inc.
Non-repayable contribution of $146,888 out of a total investment of $293,775
Club Moto-Neige La Tuque (the Club) is a non-profit organization that maintains 516 kilometres of snowmobile trails, including Trans-Québec #73, #83 and regional #355 connecting the Mauricie region to the Centre-du-Québec, Abitibi, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Capitale-Nationale regions. Each year, these trails are used by more than 6,000 snowmobilers from Quebec, Canada, the United States and Europe.
Club Moto-Neige La Tuque is affiliated with the Fédération des clubs de motoneige du Québec and therefore adheres to the Fédération’s safety and trail signage standards. Founded in 1969, the Club has established itself as an active community organization over the years by providing many services for snowmobile enthusiasts.
The project is aimed at ensuring the quality and sustainability of the snowmobile trails maintained by Club Moto-Neige La Tuque. It involves purchasing new snow-grooming equipment for mechanical trail maintenance.
CED’s contribution will go toward the purchase of a snow-grooming machine.
Microbrasserie La Pécheresse
Repayable contribution of $66,000 out of a total investment of $250,000
Microbrasserie La Pécheresse (MLP) is a corporation owned by two young La Tuque entrepreneurs. It began operations in summer 2015 and has seven employees.
The company’s premises are divided into two parts: a tasting area, and an area dedicated to operations from brewing to bottling. A dozen different beers are brewed there every year. The microbrewery takes adistinctive approach that involves using local products in its recipes, including honey, haskap berries, and potentially raspberries, elderberries and late-season strawberries from a local producer.
The purpose of the project is to improve the company’s productivity and increase its production capacity so that it can meet its operational requirements effectively. The project consists in acquiring and installing more efficient equipment to automate and interconnect certain operations, carrying out leasehold improvement work and paying professional fees.
CED’s contribution will go toward the purchase and installation costs for this new equipment, including a boiler, fermenters, a plate cooler, a canning machine and a labeller, as well as leasehold improvements and professional fees.
The project is expected to create two jobs.
