New player GenHydrau enters Quebec hydraulic sector

News release

Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Quebec, March 4, 2020 Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The hydraulic sector has already been in a period of prosperity for some years now. Design services are increasingly in demand by manufacturers using hydraulics as a major component of their products. Several areas of activity including construction, transportation, forestry, mining, agriculture, the maritime industry and fisheries are already using this technology.

In light of this market potential, experienced engineer Gilles Cloutier and his partner Danny Collin have launched GenHydrau. The start-up, established in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, specializes in the design and manufacture of hydraulic systems and, more specifically, in the design, machining and assembly of hydraulic distribution systems called manifolds.

Seizing business opportunities through automation

In support of its launch, GenHydrau will be able to count on a repayable contribution of $105,000 from CED to hone its business and acquire various pieces of production equipment, including a computer numerical control (CNC) machining centre. This purchase will enable it to manufacture hydraulic manifolds in large quantities, with a short turnaround and at very competitive prices.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for the six regional development agencies (RDAs), including CED.

Unique, trail-blazing turnkey solution offered in Gaspésie

Manufacturing hydraulic manifolds has become an innovative solution in the sector. In Quebec, the pool of potential clients is immense, and yet manufacturers are rare, as hydraulics knowledge and training are limited. This is an area of expertise GenHydrau plans to develop in the coming years, but the business already has the necessary assets to provide turnkey service. From the design to manufacturing to assembly of products specifically designed and adapted to its clientele’s needs, GenHydrau is the only business in Quebec to be able to offer a comprehensive complex hydraulic design and assistance service.

This project aligns perfectly with CED’s mission to encourage the development of a dynamic entrepreneurial environment and economic diversification in Gaspésie, among other things by supporting the start-up of an innovative business.
