$6 million for new North American operation brings global investment and 55 jobs to Kingston

April 13, 2018, Kingston, ON

Frulact Canada Inc. has established a new 58,000-square-foot research and development and food processing facility in Kingston’s Cataraqui Estates Business Park. This comes at a critical time when Canada is competing with other countries to attract international companies to invest and do business here.

The governments of Canada and Ontario announced a combined investment of up to $6 million to establish this new facility that is serving as the company’s North American base, and its first facility in Canada.

The Government of Canada, through FedDev Ontario, is contributing up to $4.5 million from its Investing in Business Growth and Productivity initiative and the Government of Ontario, through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, is investing up to $1.5 million.

Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands announced the federal portion of the funding on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario. Cristina Martins, Parliamentary Assistant to the Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Growth, made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Jeff Leal, Ontario Minister Responsible for Small Business and Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The FedDev Ontario contribution supported construction and equipment costs, and is helping Frulact Canada Inc. introduce advanced technology and innovation into the food and beverage industry. With support from the provincial government’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the company is investing in manufacturing equipment, laboratory technology, specialty storage containers and staff training.

Frulact Canada’s Kingston facility is instrumental in the company growing its business in North American markets. This facility will add up to 55 new permanent full-time jobs in the Kingston area and is attracting investment now and in the future.
