Canada’s steel industry is a key contributor to the Canadian economy, providing well-paying jobs across Canada.

Today, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, announced an investment of up to $515,000 for Mississauga-based Pittsburgh Steel Group.

With this funding, Pittsburgh Steel Group will be able to purchase and install leading-edge robotics technology and adopt sophisticated new production monitoring software to improve its operations. This investment will support the company’s growth by boosting its productivity and competitiveness, while creating and maintaining seven good jobs in Mississauga.

This project is funded through the more than $39 million allocated for southern Ontario under the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) Steel and Aluminum Initiative, announced in March 2019.

Delivered by Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs), these non-repayable contributions will support Canada’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the steel and aluminum sectors that are innovating to succeed and create jobs.
