Government of Canada invests to make life more affordable and build Canada’s 21st century clean economy

News release

March 30, 2023 – Toronto, Ontario

Canada has shown a remarkable recovery from the COVID recession. Canada’s economic growth was the strongest in the G7 over the last year. More Canadians are employed today than before the pandemic, including over 360,000 here in Ontario. Budget 2023 outlines the federal government’s plan to build on this momentum and create a more secure, sustainable and affordable Canada from coast to coast to coast.

Today, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), spent the morning in Brampton where she visited Brightpath – Sandalwood Child Care Centre and Asian Food Centre to highlight Budget 2023’s investments to make life more affordable for Canadians. This includes the new Grocery Rebate, offering targeted inflation relief for 11 million Canadians and families who need it most. Budget 2023 is putting more money back in the pockets of Canadian families.

In the afternoon, Minister Tassi joined promising entrepreneurs and investors to deliver keynote remarks at Moonshots 2030, hosted by MaRS Discovery District and the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) in Toronto. Minister Tassi spoke to the importance of Canada’s innovation economy, and highlighted Budget 2023 measures to build a clean economy through transformative investments to fight climate change and create new opportunities for Canadian businesses and workers.

Through these measures and more, Budget 2023 will help to build a stronger, more sustainable, and more secure Canadian economy—for everyone.
