Festivals, events and tourist destinations bring people together, strengthening communities and making southern Ontario a must-see destination. These experiences attract thousands of visitors to our region each year, creating significant economic impact in communities across the region.
Today, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario and Member of Parliament for Hamilton West−Ancaster−Dundas; Chad Collins, Member of Parliament for Hamilton East−Stoney Creek; and Lisa Hepfner, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth and Member of Parliament for Hamilton Mountain, attended an event hosted by Supercrawl Productions. While there, Minister Tassi, PS Hepfner and MP Collins highlighted a number of festivals, events and tourist destinations that have expanded their offerings to attract more visitors and foster economic growth with a FedDev Ontario investment of more than $2.5 million in 17 projects.
As part of this, Supercrawl received an investment of $200,000 to deliver the inaugural “Supercrawl Presents” concert series from March to May 2024, which included concerts, showcasing multiple emerging and diverse performers. The project supported cultural diversity through the delivery of musical performances, attracting 9,000 domestic and international visitors to the Hamilton region during the shoulder tourism season.
Theatre Aquarius, in Hamilton, is a regional not-for-profit, category ‘A’ theatre and anchor arts institution that is also receiving an investment of $100,000 to assist in growing its audiences by enhancing accessibility offerings for hearing-impaired clients, improving its digital presence and creating all-in-one packages to attract tourists including the addition of bus tours.
Information on the projects receiving support is included in the backgrounder.
The Government of Canada is investing in festivals, events and tourist destinations of all sizes so they can continue to grow and attract visitors to the region while contributing to the local economy and positioning Canada as an all-season destination of choice.
