Expert Panel on Early Learning and Child Care Data and Research

From Employment and Social Development Canada

Background

The Government of Canada is investing in early learning and child care to help Canadian children get the best start in life and have a fair chance to succeed.

In support of this commitment, the Government of Canada has established an expert panel on early learning and child care data and research.

The Expert Panel will act as a sounding board and a forum for in-depth discussion on issues related to early learning and child care information, data and research. Specifically, the panel's role will be to provide advice and recommendations in developing an early learning and child care data and research strategy that could include:

  • identifying priority action areas
  • identifying innovative approaches; and
  • aligning the objectives of the work with other Government priorities

About the Expert Panel

A public call for nominations was held from November 19, 2018 to December 14, 2018. Individuals with experience in early learning and child care; including leaders, practitioners, experts, academics and social actors were invited to apply to become members of the Expert Panel. Over 220 applications were received from across Canada and internationally.

The Expert Panel brings together a diverse group of 14 members who will provide valuable advice and input to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development on a range of early learning and child care issues that will in turn inform the data and research strategy.
