Transcript of Video message from the Honourable Bardish Chagger — International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Video length: 00:01:26 minutes
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. While we have been marking this day globally for 55 years, racism, prejudice, and hatred continue to be a daily reality for many.
In fact, over the last year, we have witnessed unprecedented global protests against racism and injustice. More and more, people are uniting together to bring to the forefront the devastating impact of racism in Canada and around the world and saying “enough is enough.”
We hear you and I want you to know that the Government of Canada remains committed to combatting discrimination and racism in all of its forms to build a country that is safer and consciously more inclusive for everyone.
As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said, “We know that our work together is not done…Not while anyone faces racism or injustice.”
Today, I want to remind everyone of our collective duty to stand against all forms of racial injustices and discrimination. If we want a truly inclusive Canada, each of us must be actively anti-racist in our homes, workplaces, and communities.
Together, let’s work to foster greater connection and understanding to combat racial discrimination and build an even better, safer, and just Canada for everyone.
Keep well and safe.
