Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition
Backgrounder
Originally launched by the World Bank at the 2014 United Nations Climate Change Summit in New York City, the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC) is a voluntary initiative that supports and encourages the successful implementation of carbon pricing around the world. The CPLC brings together leaders from government, business, and civil society to support the introduction of carbon pricing, to share experiences and to enhance global, regional, national and sub-national understanding of current best practices in the implementation of carbon pricing.
CPLC members agree to advance carbon pricing by working with each other towards the long‑term objective of a carbon price applied throughout the global economy by:
- Strengthening carbon pricing policies to redirect investment proportionate to the scale of the climate challenge;
- Bringing forward and strengthening the implementation of existing carbon pricing policies to better manage investment risks and opportunities; and
- Enhancing cooperation to share information, expertise and best practices.
CPLC membership currently includes 12 national governments (Canada, Chile, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland), five subnational governments (Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and California), and more than 60 businesses.
