2015 tropical cyclone season summary
Backgrounder
In 2015, the Canadian Hurricane Centre issued 21 hurricane statements on 3 tropical cyclones.
The three events for the season were:
- Tropical Storm Ana, which tracked off the coast of southwestern Nova Scotia on May 12, with minimal impacts on Canadian territory. One bulletin was issued with this storm, to inform the public that impacts on Atlantic Canada were unlikely.
- Tropical Storm Claudette, which brought heavy showers and gusty winds below gale force over southeastern portions of Newfoundland on July 15. Swell waves reached the southern coastlines of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland with minimal impact.
- Post-Tropical Storm Henri, remnants of which had minimal impacts on southeastern Newfoundland, including rainfall and gusty easterly winds, on September 12. Offshore, gale-force winds and elevated sea states were reported.
The 2015 tropical cyclone season in the Atlantic Basin was slightly below average in terms of the number of named storms. However, the 2015 tropical cyclone season had a relatively low impact on Canadian territory.
