Government of Canada and industry work together to provide clean air and healthier communities for Canadians

May 31, 2016 – Ottawa, Ontario – Environment and Climate Change Canada
The Government of Canada announced new measures to provide clean air and healthier communities for Canadians by limiting air pollution from a broad range of industries as part of the Air Quality Management System (AQMS).
In collaboration with key industries, Canada has established industrial emissions standards for hundreds of industrial facilities. The standards will be implemented through a variety of measures, including codes of practice, guidelines, performance agreements and pollution prevention planning notices.
The AQMS was developed in collaboration with the federal, provincial and territorial governments, and stakeholders from industry and environmental non-governmental organizations.
Along with these measures, the Government of Canada is also finalizing the Multi-sector Air Pollutants Regulations (MSAPR), which will establish Canada’s first-ever mandatory national air pollution emissions standards for major industrial facilities across the country. The MSAPR are also part of the AQMS.

Quick facts
- The measures cover the following industries: aluminum; iron, steel and ilmenite; potash; pulp and paper; base metals smelters; iron ore pellets; and new stationary combustion turbines.
- The currently proposed MSAPR cover the cement industry, stationary engines, and boilers and heaters.
