Canada shows leadership on carbon pricing at UN Climate Week
News Release
September 21, 2016 – New York, New York – Environment and Climate Change Canada
Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, released the following photo and quote at the conclusion of today’s Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition Panel discussion:
“Carbon pricing is one of the most efficient ways to reduce emissions and stimulate investments in innovation and low-carbon technology. More than 80 per cent of Canadians already live in a jurisdiction with a price on carbon, and we’re working with provinces and territories to bring that closer to 100 per cent.
“Canadian business leaders understand the opportunities associated with the shift to a low carbon economy. Twenty-seven Canadian companies, including many from the oil and gas sector and all five big banks, have joined the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition. That’s how, with understanding and engagement, Canada is leading on putting a price on carbon.”
– Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change
