September 22, 2016 – Ottawa, Ontario – Environment and Climate Change Canada
Engaging the public is an essential part of developing a Canadian plan on clean growth and climate change.
On April 22, 2016, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, announced the launch of an interactive website to seek input from Canadians, including Indigenous peoples, on how to address climate change and promote clean growth. Over 12,900 ideas and comments have been submitted so far. The deadline for submissions is September 27, 2016.
This engagement tool allows Canadians to join the national conversation on climate change, share their ideas and see what others are saying. Contributions received via the interactive website are also being reviewed by members of the four different working groups that were created to develop recommendations on:
- how and where to reduce emissions
- ideas for new innovation, technology and job creation
- how to put a price on carbon
- preparing for the impacts of climate change
The working group recommendations will be discussed at the upcoming First Ministers meeting to be held this fall.
