Catherine McKenna, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, discusses with her French counterpart, Nicolas Hulot, Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, in the Palais de l’Élysée.

April 17, 2018 – Paris, France

While in Paris, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, met with France’s Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, Nicolas Hulot.

During their meeting, Minister McKenna and Minister Hulot discussed the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the acceleration of investment in clean energy, and the importance of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and progressive trade. They will continue working together to advance environmental priorities under the Canadian 2018 G7 presidency and the French 2019 G7 presidency, including joint climate action, the reduction of plastic in the ocean, and the protection of biodiversity.

The meeting took place immediately before the two ministers signed the France-Canada Partnership on Climate and the Environment, a new agreement between the countries to increase cooperation on climate action. The agreement includes commitments on joint work regarding sustainable finance, a price on pollution, and an expert dialogue on biodiversity and Indigenous knowledge.
