Consultation document on chlorinated paraffins
Table of Contents
Introduction
As stated in the Risk Management Approach for chlorinated paraffins, published August 30, 2008, the Government of Canada is developing risk management actions for chlorinated paraffins. These proposed risk management actions are intended to achieve the lowest level of release of chlorinated paraffins into the Canadian environment.
Since the publication of the Risk Management Approach for chlorinated paraffins in August 2008, valuable information was provided by stakeholders and further work has been done in support of the risk management actions. Accordingly, the Government of Canada has refined its risk management approach for chlorinated paraffins.
The intent of this consultation document, and the subsequent consultation meeting scheduled for October 22 in Toronto, Ontario, is to encourage discussion and to give interested and affected parties an opportunity to provide input into the proposed path forward.
The consultation process aims to:
- Ensure that all interested stakeholders are informed of the proposed path forward; and
- Provide an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the development of recommendations on the proposed risk management instruments and proposed path forward.
As per the Cabinet Directive on Streamlining Regulations, the Government of Canada is committed to providing interested and affected parties with the opportunity to take part in open and meaningful consultations at all stages of the regulatory process.
A copy of this consultation document has been posted on the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999) Environmental Registry. The Government of Canada will review all comments received and will take them into consideration in developing risk management actions for chlorinated paraffins. The Government of Canada welcomes the distribution of this document to any interested and affected parties.
