Reference method for measuring the surface tension of chromium electroplating: chapter 8

8. Calculations

  • 8.1 For a 2.5 mL stalagmometer, use the following equation:

Equation 1. Suface tension equals density (grams per millilitre) times 1440 divided by number of drops

  • 8.2 For a 5 mL stalagmometer, use a constant of 2880 instead of 1440:

Equation 2. Suface tension equals density (grams per millilitre) times 2880 divided by number of drops

  • 8.3 Use the table in Appendix A for looking up the surface tension value for density (in mL or Baume) and the number of drops.
