Technical Clarification on the Regulations Limiting Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Natural Gas-fired Generation of Electricity
The following technical guidance is being published to provide clarification on quantification under the Regulations Limiting Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Natural Gas-fired Generation of Electricity (the Regulations).
Approved Electricity Meters
- The Regulations require that the gross quantity of electricity generated by a unit must be measured using meters that comply with the requirements of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act and the Electricity and Gas Inspection Regulations.
- References to the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act and the Electricity and Gas Inspection Regulations are made in the following subsections and paragraphs:
- Paragraph 11(1)(a), subsection 11(2) in the definition of Gce and Gs, and paragraph 24(1)(e).
Clarification:
- ECCC considers that this requirement is met if an electricity meter, which is not used for the purpose of obtaining the basis of a charge for electricity supplied to a purchaser, is approved by Measurement Canada as per the Notice of Approvals database.
