Supplemental guidance on implementation of Canada-wide standard for petroleum hydrocarbons in soil at federal contaminated sites
Executive summary
The Canada-wide standard for petroleum hydrocarbons in soil (CWS PHC) was first published in May 2001 by the Canadian Council of Ministers for the Environment. This guide was developed to provide a consistent approach to managing petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated sites across the country. The CWS PHC sets out generic target levels and provides guidance for generating site-specific criteria based on risk that are protective of human and ecological health.
The goal of this guidance document is to further assist custodians (Federal contaminated sites action plan funded federal departments, agencies, and consolidated Crown corporations) with the implementation of the standard and provide guidance or clarity where there are no specifications.
