Bradwell National Wildlife Area Management Plan: chapter 10

10 Collaborators

Collaboration with local agencies and sector organizations to contribute to the protection and conservation of wildlife species and their habitats in the National Wildlife Area (NWA) will be favoured.

For instance, collaborations could be developed or pursued with universities and research centres to fill scientific knowledge gaps, with the province to implement species at risk recovery measures, particularly for species under provincial jurisdiction, and with non-governmental organizations and municipal authorities to increase public awareness of the objectives of the NWA. The main organizations likely to collaborate or to have a stake in the management of Bradwell NWA include:

Ducks Unlimited Canada

Bradwell NWA was established by the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) in 1968 to facilitate the operation of the Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) Baldwin Project, which was completed that same year. The Baldwin Project is a waterfowl habitat management program that was designed to maximize waterfowl production.

Specifically, DUC:

  • built all existing water control structures (dykes, ditches, stop log bays, and culverts) that connect the six wetland basins of the Baldwin Project located within Bradwell NWA;
  • manages water level manipulation of the six wetland basins of the Baldwin Project located within Bradwell NWA;
  • maintains and repairs all water control structures of the Baldwin Project (CWS ensures all permissions are in place prior to repairs)

DUC has continued to have a partnership in the management of Bradwell NWA throughout the years. The CWS looks forward to continuing this long-standing and successful partnership into the future.
