8 Enforcement

The management of National Wildlife Areas (NWAs) is based on three Acts:

• Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, and Migratory Bird Sanctuary Regulations
• Canada Wildlife Act and Wildlife Area Regulations
• Species at Risk Act

Canadian Wildlife Service and Wildlife Enforcement Division staff monitor compliance with the Canada Wildlife Act and the Wildlife Area Regulations on an ongoing basis and will initiate investigations as required. NWA program staff will provide specific details from site inspections that may require enforcement action. Charges pertaining to off-road vehicles (ORV) use have been laid regarding Sand Pond NWA under the Wildlife Area Regulations.
