State of end-of-life lamp management in Canada
Baseline report
The baseline report describes the state of end-of-life lamp management in Canada in 2017. Data gathered under the measurement framework will be compared with the baseline data.
Diversion rates of lamps containing mercury across Canada in 2017
The estimated diversion rate for lamps containing mercury across Canada in 2017 was 34% or about 22 million lamps.
This table shows the estimated diversion rates for each province and territory and for Canada as a whole. Data for some jurisdictions are incomplete or were not available for 2017. See the baseline report for more information.

Measurement framework for the national strategy
A measurement framework was created to determine the effectiveness of the national strategy’s actions on diversion (recycling) rates over time. We will collect data on lamp diversion annually. The framework describes:
- who should report
- how to report data
- how we will report back to Canadians
Interim report on key findings and developments
The interim report describes key findings and developments on the environmentally sound management of end-of-life lamps containing mercury following the publication of the National Strategy in June 2019.
