Common name: Loggerhead Shrike excubitorides subspecies

Scientific name: Lanius Ludovicianus Excubitorides

Status: Threatened

Reason for designation: This raptorial songbird has suffered significant (more than 80%) population declines over the past 35 years. These declines have been linked to loss of native prairie and pastureland habitats and pesticide residues.

Occurrence: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba

Status history: This species was considered a single unit and assigned a status of Threatened in April 1986. Split according to subspecies in April 1991. The excubitorides subspecies retained the original Threatened designation from April 1986. Status re-examined and confirmed in May 2004.  Last assessment based on an update status report.
